Clash of the heavyweights

The first card on tap for upstart promoters The Heavyweight Factory, was all set to be memorable one. That is until Oliver McCall, the heavyweight known almost as much for his arrest record as he is for his in-ring record added another loss to the former. He was arrested over the weekend on three separate charges including possession of Cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of parole

The card was set to feature the senior McCall along with his son who did compete against Dieuly Aristlde.

Another notable name to the fans at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood was that of former Miami Hurricanes standout, Quadtrine Hill.

Hill left the stadium lights of the NFL behind to step between the ropes after being placed on the injured reserved list in 2007. When asked how he has taken to boxing Hill replied, "I have always been a person who felt if I boxed I would be great at it. A great athlete, for the most part, is if he has a good head on his shoulders and put the right amount of work into it, you could turn him pretty much into anything you want."

With the support in the crowd of former and current University of Miami stars, Hill took the stage and looked impressive early on gaining a two knockdowns before the referee stopped the fight in the first round.

While Hill did look impressive, it will be interesting to see as his career progresses if he can do the same against more impressive competition. But for one night at least, Quadtrine Hill is the hero of Miami boxing.

In an exclusive interview with former University of Miami linebacker Jon Beason, when asked about the performance Quadtrine gave he said, “Anytime you can get a knockout in the first round, it’s a good start”.

Since McCall senior failed to make the event much attention was payed to his son Elijah. The hard hitting southpaw did not disappoint landing punches at will in round 1 including two knockdowns before Aristilde was saved by the bell. The punishment continued in round number two with a couple of lefts connecting across the face of Aristilde before he finally connected with a few shots of his own. At the end of round two, Aristlde would win over the crowd who was willing him to punish the Chicago native.

These two heavyweights would not disappoint as they would put on what was without a doubt the match of the night. In the end it would not be a good night for the McCall family as father disgraced himself, and son ended the night on the canvas after a knockout in the
