A modern day Rocky Balboa

Ladies and Gentleman there is a new name in MMA lore. Seth Petruzelli has done what until last night was thought to be improbable if not completely impossible. Kimbo Slice was defeated not by the man whom is a legend in the sport, but a man who was a relative unknown until the events that took place at the Bank Atlantic Center last night.

The 44 year old Ken Shamrock was taken out of the fight by the Florida State Boxing Commission due to a deep cut over his eye that required 6 stitches. The cut was suffered due to a head butt sustained to the fighter during what he called a light workout.

With Shamrock out, step in Seth Petruzelli, who prior to tonight was known best for competing on Season 2 of the Ultimate Fighter.

After the fight Elite XC Vice President Jared Shaw, compared Petruzelli to Rocky Balboa, calling him the real life version. When asked what his thoughts were in regards to that comparison Seth had this to say, “Growing up I was really emotionally attached to the films, I’m Italian, so to be able to come out and get a victory was amazing.”

The fight was seemingly over before it began as 14 seconds into the match Kimbo found himself looking at the mat while being attacked with a barrage of rights and left, before referee stepped in and stopped the fight.

At the commencement of the evening it was widely speculated around the arena that Petruzelli was nothing more than a sacrifice being made at the altar of Kimbo Slice. He came out and proved to the crowd of 9,414, to Elite XC, and most importantly to himself, that he is indeed a contender.

After the fight Petruzelli told Total-E-Sports.blogspot.com that he would definitely be open to a rematch with Kimbo, as he felt he owed him that much for the opportunity.

Kimbo, whom was late arriving at the press conference, had this statement to say,

“This was an opportunity for everyone to see something big. Before tonight no one knew who this guy was and now everyone knows who he is. The man knocked me down in front of my family and that’s F*** up. I got my First black eye.”

You do have to tip your hat to Kimbo on one end; he made no secret of the fact that he would fight anyone, anywhere, at any time. Tonight he had the chance to prove himself honest and he did just that. Although the result was not what he or his faithful following in South Florida wanted to see, it was a great night of MMA action.
