Lambeau Leap

He stood at the end of the game, a humbly defeated man wearing his beloved green and gold.

They were colors he bled for, colors he gave everything to over a storied 17 year career.

Now we are faced with a quandary, do we wish to have that be the last memory of this mans career in the NFL, or see him come back for maybe one or two more seasons?

Oh yeah, and it’s possible that he may come back in a uniform unfamiliar to all of us whom have become accustomed to seeing that green number 4 across his chest.

Few men get to leave this savage game on their own terms; so why would Brett Favre want to return, with more to lose than there will ever be to gain? Does he feel he still has something left to prove? Or is this the pride of a man who doesn’t know that he is no longer the MVP he once was?

At this point it seems that Favre (39) is on his way back to the NFL which he left in March. At the time, he was beaten, bruised, and defeated. It is understood that every competitor wants to be on the field, they have trouble letting go of the spotlight. However with 7 NFL records and a Super Bowl championship under his belt why would he want to taint his legacy by possibly playing for another team?

On the other side of the coin are the Green Bay Packers. Favre has put his former team in a tough spot. They must decide between reliving the glory years for a couple more seasons, or putting a close to that chapter of the book and starting anew with a somewhat unproven Aaron Rogers. The other tough decision is putting Rogers back on the bench when he has the opportunity to become a free agent at the end of the season. Would he harbor any resentment against the team for not believing in him? Or would he understand that as long as he remained a Packer, he would forever be in the shadow of Favre.

There are many questions to be answered in the coming weeks before training camp begins. The answers may not be easy but they must be reached. There are too many careers that depend on the answers, careers that have already been held hostage long enough by the indecision of Favre.
