Greater Tuna?

Change!

It is a word most commonly used with a negative connotation, however as the dust clears from the fracas, it is evident that both the Miami Dolphins and Defensive End Jason Taylor came out winners in this one.

Taylor is on his way to Washington, and what are left in his place are the memories of a storied 10 year career in aqua and orange. Oh yeah, and two draft picks over then next two years. What was it about him that made this dolphin non-tuna safe? Was Bill Parcels threatened by an aging Defensive End, who seemed more interested in the bright lights of Hollywood than by the dark halls of the game tape room? Or was his ego simply too much to let Taylor take his spotlight?

In the end Dol-Fans are left to wonder if it is best to have moved on with the recollections of sacks past or to have seen this man be mired in mediocrity for what remains of his NFL career. Lately the Miami Dolphins have shown less desire to win and more desire to prove to its fans that someone other than them is to blame for the self-destruction of this once proud franchise.

So now the revolving door continues to turn, allowing Jason Taylor to follow his brother-in-law Zach Thomas out the door. Two men who gave everything they had so that the team might be greater, so that as a team they could rise out of the average and into what should have been an otherwise extraordinary team led by the aura of Dan Marino.

In the end, the result is the same, years of aptitude wasted by big names and empty promises.

So now come more promises, this time from possibly the biggest of name; Bill Parcels. He has been anointed to lead this stumbling franchise into the Promised Land, and as he does he has let nothing stop him from turning this team into nothing more than a group of Dallas Cowboys castoffs.

Perhaps that is exactly what this team need! Perhaps it is not! That remains to be seen in the coming years. Parcells has a knack for leaving teams better than he received them, but maybe that is because he always starts with the bar so low.

Now Dol-Fans are left to ponder if it was necessary to swallow the history of this organization in order to fulfill the promises of a man who could care less about said history.

As long as Bill Parcells is making the decisions in Miami, the answer to that query is yes!
